About this project
The record-breaking run showcases how next-generation platforms, high-voltage architectures, and intelligent body control systems are redefining the limits of performance, stability, and safety in sustainable mobility. YANGWANG, BYD premium sub-brand, has redefined the boundaries of electric performance with its latest achievement: the U9 Track Edition supercar clocked a record-breaking 472.41 km/h at the ATP Automotive Testing track. The feat secures its title as the world fastest EV and establishes a new benchmark in sustainable high-performance mobility. At the core of this accomplishment is YANGWANG e4 Platform and DiSus-X Intelligent Body Control System, technologies that together provide unparalleled power, precision, and stability. The Track Edition is the first supercar to integrate a mass-produced 1200V ultra-high-voltage vehicle platform, coupled with a next-generation thermal management system optimized for extreme speeds. Key features include quad high-performance motors each spinning up to 30,000 rpm, combined output of over 3,000 PS, and power-to-weight ratio of 1,217 PS per tonne, matching elite supercars. Drivers experience relentless acceleration and top-tier racing performance without sacrificing control. Stability at high speed comes from the quad-motor torque-vectoring system, adjusting wheel torque over 100 times per second. In tandem, the DiSus-X suspension performs micro-adjustments independently at each corner, suppressing pitch and roll while optimizing tyre grip. Together, these systems guarantee safety, responsiveness, and confidence, even under extreme track conditions. Aerodynamic enhancements, including an optional carbon-fiber front splitter, ensure the U9 maintains composure at record-setting velocities. A collaboration with Giti Tire has produced bespoke semi-slick tyres with optimized compounds and knurled wheel interfaces, minimizing slippage and reducing torque loss.
Detailed Project Description
World Fastest EV Car is a technology insight article that explains a recent industry development, the engineering behind it and what it means for students and practitioners in the field.
How It Works
1. The development is introduced with the companies, products or research groups involved.
2. The underlying technology (materials, architecture, process or algorithm) is explained in plain terms.
3. Its advantages over the existing approach are compared using the published specifications.
4. The impact on the industry and on future projects is discussed.
Technology Roles
- C
- SPI
Implementation Steps
1. Read the primary announcement and the technical specifications.
2. Identify the core technology and how it differs from the previous generation.
3. Relate it to the fundamentals studied in the curriculum (materials, power electronics, architecture).
4. Note how a similar idea could be prototyped at student scale.
Key Features
- Industry context
- Technical explanation
- Comparison with existing solutions
- Future outlook
Expected Output
On completion the student will have a clear understanding of the technology, its benefits and how it can inspire or inform a related student project.
Deliverables
