About this project
Fossify File Manager is part of the Fossify suite — a family of clean, ad-free, privacy-respecting open-source Android apps (file manager, gallery, calendar, contacts, and more) that continued the popular Simple Mobile Tools project. It is built in Kotlin with a minimal-dependency philosophy.
The project is ideal for beginners studying Android fundamentals — file system access, custom RecyclerView adapters, theming/dark-mode support, and clean single-app architecture — without the complexity of large multi-module codebases.
Project Overview
Fossify File Manager is a beginner-level CSE project designed for B.Tech students. Simple, privacy-focused, ad-free open-source file manager from the Fossify suite of Android apps (formerly Simple Mobile Tools).
Objectives
- Understand the problem statement and define clear functional requirements for the system.
- Structure the application into clean, reusable modules with proper data handling and validation.
- Design and implement the complete solution using Kotlin, Android SDK, RecyclerView.
- Test the implementation, document the results, and prepare a working demonstration.
Software and Tools
- Android Studio
- Gradle
- Kotlin
Technology Stack
Kotlin, Android SDK, RecyclerView
Working Principle and Implementation
The application follows a modular structure: a user-facing interface collects input, the core logic processes the data and applies the required rules, and the results are stored or presented back to the user. Data is managed through a structured data layer. The project is organised so that each module can be developed, tested and extended independently.
Applications
- Academic mini/major project submission for B.Tech (CSE).
- Base platform that can be extended with additional features for real-world use.
- Hands-on practice with Kotlin, Android SDK, RecyclerView.
Learning Outcomes
- Practical understanding of Kotlin, Android SDK, RecyclerView.
- End-to-end project workflow: requirement analysis, design, implementation and testing.
- Documentation and presentation of a complete engineering project.
Project Details
- Domain: CSE
- Level: B.Tech
- Difficulty: Beginner
- Estimated Duration: 2-3 weeks
