About this project

Aegis Authenticator is a two-factor authentication app that generates TOTP/HOTP codes, similar to Google Authenticator, but fully open-source and privacy-respecting. It is written in Kotlin and stores all secrets in an encrypted local vault.

The project is compact enough to study end-to-end in a few weeks and is an excellent introduction to applied cryptography on Android (AES/Argon2), secure local storage, biometric unlock, and QR-code scanning — all common requirements in real fintech and security apps.

Project Overview
Aegis Authenticator — Secure 2FA App is an intermediate-level CSE project designed for B.Tech students. Free, secure and open-source two-factor authentication (2FA) app for Android with encrypted local vault and backup support.

Objectives
- Understand the problem statement and define clear functional requirements for the system.
- Structure the application into clean, reusable modules with proper data handling and validation.
- Design and implement the complete solution using Kotlin, Android SDK, Room, Biometric API.
- Test the implementation, document the results, and prepare a working demonstration.

Software and Tools
- Android Studio
- Gradle
- Kotlin

Technology Stack
Kotlin, Android SDK, Room, Biometric API

Working Principle and Implementation
The application follows a modular structure: a user-facing interface collects input, the core logic processes the data and applies the required rules, and the results are stored or presented back to the user. Data is managed through Room. The project is organised so that each module can be developed, tested and extended independently.

Applications
- Academic mini/major project submission for B.Tech (CSE).
- Base platform that can be extended with additional features for real-world use.
- Hands-on practice with Kotlin, Android SDK, Room.

Learning Outcomes
- Practical understanding of Kotlin, Android SDK, Room.
- End-to-end project workflow: requirement analysis, design, implementation and testing.
- Documentation and presentation of a complete engineering project.
